The Hidden Power Found In The Negative
“One of the things I learned the hard way was that it does not pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.” – Lucille Bell
You are down. You feel defeated. You feel negative. It seems no matter what you do, things are just not working. One situation after another. One problem after another. Will they never end? I hate to break it to you but I do not think so. Some will sneak up on you while others may linger. Some will come and go from time to time. Or with time, the problems might just reduce in number. But they will always rear their ugly head. Such is life! But I honestly believe that dealing with negative situations comes with the territory. However, I also believe that there is a positive purpose to the negative situations we constantly face in this journey of life. They are meant to:
To test you
They test what you are made of. Your character. Your will to persevere. Your will to hold on to the good in you. Your will to cope in hard times. I feel one of the ultimate goals of any negative situation is to humble you. It makes you understand that nothing is guaranteed in this world. That this life and everything about it is fleeting. What you may have today, you may not have tomorrow. And when you learn that, when you accept that, you become very humble. Even when things get better, and they eventually will, you will look back on those days, look back to where you came from and realize that being pompous and full of pride is a bit irrational. It does you no good. Because in this topsy turvy world we live in, one minute you are up and the next you are down.
To strengthen you
On the surface, it would seem like that situation came to overwhelm and overpower you. It may seem like that situation came to mock you. It may seem like that situation came to show you how much of a weakling you are. But when you look deeper, you will eventually see that the situation came to strengthen you IF you allow it to. What do I mean? Stop focusing on how bad the situation is. Stop fousing on how the situation is bringing you shame and disgrace. Stop focusing on how the situation is making you feel. Emotions will not help you here.
Positive thinking will! Everyday tell yourself that you will get out of this situation. Believe what you say to yourself. You will begin to focus on how to solve your situation. And you will begin to realise that the change will be slow but sure. And that is where your strength is nurtured. When you begin to fight the situation. No matter how many times it knocks you down you continue to get up. Fight! And you get stronger. Fight smart! And you get braver. Fight! And you refuse to be a quitter. You realise even if you go down, you would rather go down fighting!
To teach you
I feel there is a learning experience in every negative situation. That ungrateful partner came into your life to teach you the importance of gratitude. You find yourself becoming grateful for even the little things because you have learnt first hand how ugly ingratitude is. That financial mess happened to you so you will learn the principles to financial freedom so you would be better equipped to handle your finances in the future. You really struggled to get an education so you will learn the benefits of sacrifice and hard work. And this hard work, in turn, moulded your character. And this character will eventually get you to that fancy job you have desired for so long.
To make you better
I feel the ultimate goal of negative situations is to make you a better person. You went through several frogs so that you would be a better version of yourself for your prince charming. You were sacked from that low level job so doors for a better job could open for you. At the end, everything works for your good. You just have to hold on to that. Believe that in your mind, body and soul. Do not give up on what you want regarding your relationship, academics, job etc. And things will eventually work out.
The way in which you choose to view and handle a situation greatly impacts how you navigate through life. Do not hate the bad times, do not hate that ungrateful ex, do not hate your struggle. Why? They came to teach you something. And besides, when you get to your destination you will look back on those days with a smile. For without those days, you most likely would not have gotten to your ideal destination. Besides, nothing good comes easy. It comes with a whole lot of sacrifice and negativity. So choose to use that negativity to your advantage!
Remember, be sincerely you!
