Marianne Fassler’s wedding apparel are A-MA-ZING!
“I want to be remembered as a true African who celebrated her country and her continent in her work. I also want to be known as somebody who was active and aware, compassionate and gracious, but most of all I want people to remember me with a smile.” – Marianne Fassler
A little bit about Marianne Fassler
Fassler is regarded as one of South Africa’s first ladies of fashion. She describes herself as ‘unashamedly different, African and antifashion’. She believes in sustainable design. Fassler’s studio, named leopard frock, is situated in Saxonworld, Johanessburg where she mentors aspiring designers and artists. She most recently participated in the prestigious 2016 Mercedes Benz fashion Week Joburg.
What I absolutely love about her designs?
As you already know, I love african fashion and everything it represents. But I particularly love African fashion designers who do not conform to the status quo. I love designers who are able to strike a fine balance between creativity, beauty, excellence and simplicity. You know what I mean? They are not too much but are neither too little. They do not just move with the trends. They are above the trends and they accomplish that effortlessly!
Fassler is one such designer. Her work is unique but relatable. It is beautiful. It is modern. And her wedding dresses? Oh! MY! GOSH! They are on another level. I fell in love with so many of them but my favorite thus far is (drum roll please):
Below are some of her designs that I am going super gaga over (but you can check out more of her designs here:leopardfrock.co.za).
